some clarity & sanity plsssssssss

Over the last few days or weeks I have been hearing about these barbaric violent attacks in Aus land on Indian students…..I hear people talk about it while they come to drop their kids...in restaurants...cafe anywhere...so i realise its serious .....i called few freinds who are more or less settled in Aus and understand the real situation..this is what some of them had to say.....”well ! racism kahan nahin hain..…its all fine with us…you should just be careful after all you are in another country”…if you have to be so careful how can you live peacefully in another country..uhhmm anyways…another friend said..”look who is talking about racism don’t we have racism in India ….its all media hype… India is going places …no country can afford to ignore or treat us this way”……and some said “Aussies are racist ....if you know the history of Aussies..they are all thugs and are prone to be that way …."

All these reactions are somewhat true ...…arent they ? am rather confused now…..But under the given circumstances would I let my kids go to Aus and study…i dunno??? so what is this hoopla all about..beating students to the extent of death...it is condemnable?...i dont blame the students for reacting .... on the other hand there are Indians settled there over generations.....if racism was such a big issue..would they be there ???..Uuffff…many questions and answer is what media seems to give……..are they making mountain of a mole hill….??? or this too shall enter the history and be forgotten.....

I'm studying in Sydney. Indian Media has hyped up way too much.
So far it was okay but due to the fact that every attack was attributed to having 'racial' motives, Indians are now viewed with hostility.

The students who were attacked and passed away(rest their souls) won't find any difference due to this hullabaloo created. Its just speculation and media frenzy. My folks are worried sick and call me up everyday.

Cops have to step up and monitor troublesome areas more strictly.

Mind your own business, don't hang around too late then no worries mate.

We were in Arizona when Sep 11 happened and many Sikhs got killed in random attacks. One of our friend a Sikh guy who was a GA in the university had to go through a walk out by his students. Then he explained to them on how he shouldn't be judged because of his turban and that he didn't belong to any of the Arab countries. They apologized and returned to class.

See this is what happens when there is mass stereotyping. We didn't face any problem there.

Govt. should take strict actions and demand an enquiry from Australian govt. but other than that this mass hysteria of hating on any community based on caste/religion or race is plain ignorance.

I have friend who migrated to Australia 4-5 years ago. According to her the problem started because these students would stay in seedy neighborhoods because the rent was cheaper. Folks get attacked in such places, including Indians. By some coincidence 2-3 Indian students got mugged around about the same time. Our media as usual hyped it up. And the huge marches and retaliatory attacks started. Now even those Aussies who were not racists have started resenting Indians. She hopes that the situation will not escalate and that folks like her and her family will be spared.
